Since 2009, the Department of English has been publishing Diotima’s: A Journal of New Readings, an annual peer-reviewed Research Journal with a focus on new readings in English literature and related areas.

Diotima, according to Plato’s Symposium, was a prophetess who initiated Socrates into the spiritual mysteries of love. She links love, which she defines as “birth in the beautiful”, with the ascent of the soul to the level of Forms. Thus, the Father of Western Philosophy had a woman for a teacher! Diotima’s — we couldn’t think of a better title for this journal launched by the English department of the first ever women’s college of Northern Kerala. Our academic vision aspires to live up to the name of this intellectual foremother of all women.

Fourteen themed issues of the journal have come out so far:

2023: Posthumanism
2022: Children’s Literature
2021: Culture in the Digital Age
2020: Life Narratives
